Color o’ the year

Pantone selects blue iris as it’s color of the year.  Says Patone:

“Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspects of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic.”

I, like 95% of all men, claim blue as my favorite color.  It is definitely purply.  In fact so much so that I might tend to call it more purple than blue.

De-evolution

I’m fairly certain we are devolving (de-evolving?  See it’s already happening to me!) as a society.  That thing a few weeks/months back I posted about the human race splitting has to be true.  As I’m pretty sure I mentioned in that post, the movie Idiocracy (a failed attempt on a good idea) seems prescient.

Anyways, the latest clue that we are just setting up our own doom, I give you the Double Deep Meat Lover’s pizza from Pizza Hut.  A single slice will log you 580 calories!  But hey, maybe someone can just eat three slices a day and lose some weight (though not as much as you might thing, and definitely they won’t be healthy) since they’d only be consuming 1740 calories a day.  Of course, 90% of Americans (I just made that stat up) would probably put down 3 slices a sitting so…

Movie review

So I finally watched Helvetica last week.  I wanted to see it since it was announced.  I had tickets when it was local, but I couldn’t make the show.  So watched the DVD.  Yes it is a movie about a font.  It’s mostly in praise of, but does have some of the detractors.  It’s a good movie.  And if you are into typography, whether or not you like Helvetica, or design, you should probably watch this movie.

This is my new test

Unless given a recommendation, I can NEVER select books.  Too many choices.  How does one go into a bookstore (or amazon), and even if they know a genre/subject/etc., pick a book?  Well thanks to Marshal McLuhan (assist to Kottke) I have my process.

Turn to page 69 of any book and read it. If you like that page, buy the book.

Schumi is rich

And fast.  And the best cabbie.

Michael Schumacher taxis himself to the airport.

So the man flies in his private jet from Switzerland to Germany to buy a puppy!  Tips a cabbie $146.72 tip on an $88.03 fare (BTW, what kind of crazy fare system do they have over there that your fare can end with pennies?  Converting to euros doesn’t answer my questions as in euros its 59.88.  Oh and does Schumi really round his change to the nearest quarter?  Why not a full dollar?  Seriously a total of $234.75?  Schumi can’t give the man a full $235?).  Isn’t there some sort of liability for a cabbie to let a passenger drive?  Not to say if I was driving Schumi that I wouldn’t let him drive, rules or not.
